Since 1989 till now history and memory were getting more and more importance. Both used, misused and abused under the pretext of the good of the nations in transit. As a result, the societies of the region became ‘ill of history’. The presentation will deal with causes and consequences of this phenomenon. Particular emphasis will be made on recent development in Ukraine and the post-Communist area.
Georgiy Kasianov is Head of Department of Contemporary History and Politics, Institute of History, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
